Lecturer Environmental Science, 1FTE, Contract Type A, fixed-term contract

Applications are invited for an appointment as full-time (1FTE) appointment as a Lecturer (Contract A) in Environmental Science at University of Galway. The duration of the contract is expected to be one year, and applicants must be in a position to commence the post on or around 1st September 2026.

The main focus of a Lecturer Contract Type A post is teaching (60%) with research and administration sharing the remainder. The School is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates who are competitive in Field Ecology or Environmental Science, and pedagogical practices. Candidates should have a strong foundation in ecosystem management and environmental conservation with an emphasis on field-based teaching and research. Knowledge and experience are required in delivering face-to-face and/or blended learning programmes or field-based teaching, to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. A leadership role in academic programme delivery, curriculum and/or pedagogical development is desirable.

Main duties

The post-holder will primarily deliver high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level in the BSc Environmental Science degree programme and related taught MSc programmes (MSc Sustainable Environments, MSc Environmental Leadership, MSc Biodiversity and Land Use Planning) run by the School of Natural Sciences. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to lectures, field- and project-based education across the Environmental Science programmes. The post-holder must have expertise and a proven portfolio in pedagogy and be able to demonstrate experience in the delivery of core Environmental Science curriculum. The post-holder should have knowledge and experience of teaching in a third level sector. It is desirable that candidates should have experience designing and developing online/blended course materials using modern teaching technologies. The post-holder will also contribute to academic administration within the School.

The post-holder will also be expected to:
• Engage professionally with students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level including adult learners;
• Engage professionally with potential employers who may act as hosts for student-based projects or placements
• Lead teaching of core Environments Science content.

Salary: € 64,903 to € 103,538 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
