Role Profile
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the Network Engineer will work as part of the Infrastructure Team in the management of key university-wide systems critical to the activities of the University. The successful individual will work closely with other Digital Technology Solutions colleagues, the wider DCU stakeholder group and technology vendors to ensure robust critical infrastructure management and drive forward infrastructure innovation in DCU.

Professional 5A - €60,580 - €81,922 ( refer to DCU Payscales for the applicable payscale for the role.)

Remote Working Policy

Employees will be based on campus for the majority of their working week to ensure a sustained on campus engagement and experience. The terms of the remote working policy will apply.

Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not restricted to, the following:
- Plan, design, and implement secure and scalable network infrastructure solutions (LAN, WAN, WLAN).
- Evaluate and deploy new networking hardware and software to improve performance and reliability.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and optimal throughput.
- Perform regular network tuning, firmware updates, and patch management.
- Configure and maintain firewalls, access controls, and other security devices to protect network integrity.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and organisational policies, including documentation of all configurations and changes.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated network issues and outages.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring problems.
- Contribute to network-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure expansions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, cybersecurity, systems, cloud, application teams) to ensure seamless integration of network services.
- Maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration records, and change logs.
Qualifications and Experience]
Essential
- Candidates must have a Primary Degree or equivalent (NFQ Level 7) in Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years' relevant of experience as a Network Engineer or similar role.
- Strong demonstrable experience in the following:
- Juniper switching, routing (BGP/OSPF) and firewalling technologies
- Aruba switching and Wireless technologies
- Mist Wireless technologies
- Modern Campus design methodologies ( Spine-Leaf / EVPN-VxLAN/ IP-Clos )
- Secure networking approaches ( ZTNA / Micro-Segmentation )
- Azure Networking
- Aruba Clearpass NAC ( or equivalent )
- Remote Access and Site-to-Site IPSec VPNs
- 802.1X implementation at scale for both wired and wireless
- Scripting / programming language ( Python )
- Enterprise deployments of VMware
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with others.
Desirable
- Previous experience working with or within the third level education sector.
