Software Development Engineer, Observability Insights
Amazon
Dublin, Dublin, Ireland
Full Time
Reference: 837528024
The Observability Insights (OI) team owns own Tier-1 services used across Amazon's businesses to monitor, search, and visualise customer experience defects. Think: real-time correlations, anomaly detection, and cross-signal insights that help engineers pinpoint root causes in minutes, not hours.
Our tools ingest and processes tens of TB/min of logs and other traffic. The insights we generate feed directly into incident management and prevention tooling across Amazon teams, including cross linking of insights with other signals.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer on our Observability Insights team. In this role you will design, build, and operate distributed systems that process high-volume, real-time logs and other event data at Amazon scale. You will work closely with senior engineers to deliver features and improvements to our product, and related stakeholder services - contributing directly to Amazon.com's availability and resilience!
Key job responsibilities
- Building and improving low-latency data pipelines that handle terabytes per minute
- Shipping features that surface correlations, anomalies, and root-cause signals to internal engineering teams
- Operating production Tier-1 services - with the context and training to actually fix things
- Collaborating across our Org and partner functions (Incident Management, Change Safety, Platform teams, Internal customers) to plug our insights into broader resilience tooling
- Driving automation that reduces toil and makes life better for engineers (including yourself!)
You'll work closely with senior engineers who'll help you grow, and you'll have real ownership from day one.
About the team
- The team provides tools to help fast identification and mitigation of Amazon Customer impacting issues. We publish metrics and log based analytics that our users can use to proactively alarm on, and use to view trends in their telemetry
- The team sits in Dublin but collaborates with internal Amazon teams worldwide
- We are a high-trust, high-accountability culture
- We are looking for folks to grow into future leaders in Amazon. We emphasise internal training and growth through learning opportunities, innovation sprints, hack days, and focused mentoring
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
