Postdoctoral Position in Multiphysics Inversion - GEMINI
The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), a government-funded academic research institution, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in multiphysics inversion.
The successful candidate will join the Geophysics Section of the School of Cosmic Physics and work with Dr. Duygu Kiyan in the electromagnetic geophysics research group. The position is funded through GEMINI, a multi-partner geothermal energy demonstration project operating across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
GEMINI (https://www.geminigeothermal.com/) is supported by the PEACEPLUS programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), and endorsed by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications in Ireland and the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland. The project supports the development of low-carbon heating solutions and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with heat production, in line with EU, UK and Irish climate targets for 2050.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to geothermal resource characterisation in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on the Sherwood Sandstone Group, a productive and regionally important aquifer. The role will focus on the joint inversion of multiple geophysical and petrophysical datasets to improve understanding of subsurface properties relevant to geothermal resource assessment.
The GEMINI project includes an extensive geophysical dataset comprising magnetotelluric (>250 stations), gravity (>1,000 measurements), and active and passive seismic datasets, alongside borehole information and petrophysical constraints such as electrical resistivity, density, seismic velocity and magnetic susceptibility. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary geophysics team, including postdoctoral researchers specialising in magnetotelluric and seismic modelling, and will contribute to the integration and joint interpretation of these datasets to improve subsurface characterisation and derive better constraints on porosity and permeability.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
The appointment will be made on the June 2026 Research Ireland salary scale (€55,399 per annum), together with pension and social insurance contributions. Support will also be provided for computer equipment required for the role and a travel allowance.
This is a fixed-term position for 24 months, starting no later than 1 st of September 2026, includes an initial probationary period. The place of work will be 5 Merrion Square North, Dublin 2, Ireland. Please note that this position is based on site in Dublin and hybrid working is not supported.
To apply: Please submit a single pdf containing your academic CV (max three pages), a letter of application detailing your interest in and suitability for the position (max two pages) and the contact details of two referees.

Application deadline: 18:00 Dublin time, 3 rd of July 2026. The position will remain open until filled.
Interviews date: Interviews are expected to take place during the second week of July.
