Software Engineer - Platform
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - Platform based in Ireland.
This is a high-impact platform engineering role focused on building and scaling the foundational infrastructure behind a next-generation database platform used by some of the world's most demanding applications. You will design and develop critical backend systems that handle massive traffic at global scale while maintaining exceptional reliability, performance, and developer experience. The role sits within a highly technical team working on distributed systems challenges where correctness, scalability, and efficiency are essential. You will collaborate with expert engineers while also engaging directly with users to translate real-world needs into robust platform capabilities. This is an environment where autonomy, deep technical ownership, and problem-solving at scale are central to daily work. Your contributions will directly shape how modern applications store, access, and manage data at global scale.
Accountabilities:
- Design and build core platform systems that support a high-scale database infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability for global workloads.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of distributed systems powering database services used by high-traffic applications.
- Collaborate with a team of experienced engineers to solve complex challenges in distributed systems, performance optimization, and system reliability.
- Work autonomously to analyze and resolve technical and business problems with minimal supervision, delivering robust and scalable solutions.
- Engage directly with customers to understand requirements and translate them into effective platform and infrastructure improvements.
- Debug, maintain, and enhance large-scale codebases while ensuring high standards of quality, performance, and maintainability.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend systems, distributed systems, or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Go, with additional experience in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and experience working with high-scale data systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes and containerized cloud-native environments.
- Proven track record of designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across complex, multi-component systems.
- Ability to work independently with high autonomy while making sound technical decisions.
- Experience in high-growth engineering environments is a strong plus.
- Nice-to-have: exposure to database internals, query optimization, observability tooling, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
