Key Responsibilities:

  • Under direction from the Senior Engineer, take responsibility for providing the required setting out and dimensional control on site. Agree how the primary control is to be established for the Works with the Senior Engineer and procedures for ongoing monitoring of same. Ensure robust checking system is in place to continually monitor and provide required assurance on setting out.

  • Review of the design and associated programme of works in conjunction with the Senior Engineer and extended construction team.

  • Take instruction from the Senior Engineer and take responsibility for understanding both short term and long terms goals. Constantly review with the Senior Engineer taking note of ongoing changes to the plan and be able to react to these changes timely.

  • Communicate with the Senior Engineer and the wider construction team daily to understand key priorities.

  • Liaise with the Senior Engineer to ensure that the construction team has all the required information to construct the Works.

  • Understand the programme and take responsibility for understanding in advance when design information is required. Where design may be late and cause possible impact to the programme, clearly report this to the Senior Engineer.

  • Where required, provide any information requested by the Senior Engineer for technical submissions within the scope of works you have responsibility for within the required timescales including taking note of required approval / response periods so that there is no impact to the programme

  • Review all applicable Inspection and Test Plans that provide the necessary inspections and hold points during construction

  • Generate method statements and risk assessments in conjunction with the wider team timely, ensuring buildability and safe systems of works are prioritised at all times.

  • As may be required and under direction from the Senior Engineer, carry out inspections of the works.

  • Maintain a detailed diary with relevant information as agreed with the Senior Engineer. Ensure the project standard for record keeping is followed. Provide information on all events that may have an impact on the programme or commercial matters.

  • Ensure that issues with design coordination are immediately flagged to the Senior Engineer or Design Coordinator. Attend weekly design meetings as required.

  • Through agreement with the Senior Engineer, understand and employ the project / company quality system to ensure the required quality assurance is being adopted for all trades.

  • As may be required, ensure all contractors comply with the required quality control on site. Under direction from the Senior Engineer, a system must be employed whereby the contractor must offer their works for inspection to STC to a pre-agreed plan. All actions from each inspection must be closed out (or to a standard agreed by the project manager) before the senior engineer provides approval for the next stage of works to proceed.

  • As the works progress populate the NCR (non-conformance report) register and maintain during construction. Hold responsible persons and contractors to account and provide detailed weekly reports to the project management team and commercial team on progress / non-compliance.

  • Prior to completion understand your involvement in the close out process. Take responsibility for any snags you are directed to. Hold sub-contractors to account, close out all snags by timely so as not to affect handover.

  • Under direction from the Senior Engineer, provide any items of learning to include in the Schedule of Lessons Learnt at the end of the project and at relevant times during its execution. Build this schedule as the works proceed.

  • Participate in the daily white board programme look ahead meetings.

  • Under direction from the Senior Engineer, carry out maintain a weekly material delivery docket control using the company GRN system.


Education and Skills Required:

  • Degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a Main Contractor (commercial project experience desirable).

  • Strong Setting Out/Levels experience.

  • Full understanding of design drawings, and building regulations in Ireland.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a team environment.

  • Safepass and Manual Handling required.
