JOB SYNOPSIS

The School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics (MLAL) at the University of Limerick (UL) invites applications for a specific-purpose appointment as Teaching Assistant in Spanish. The school delivers teaching and research across a wide range of areas, including cultural studies, film and media studies, Hispanic politics and society, Spanish language pedagogy, second language acquisition, digital technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence in language learning. MLAL also supports interdisciplinary research through several centres, including the Centre for Applied Language Studies, the Centre for European Studies, the Centre for Irish German Studies, and the Ralahine Centre for Utopian Studies. Spanish at MLAL offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that integrate language development with the study of contemporary cultural, social, and political contexts. Teaching within the School is research-informed and fosters the development of critical thinking, intercultural competence, and transferable skills. Applicants should hold a master's degree in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (or a closely related discipline) and have a minimum of three years' experience teaching Spanish at higher education level. A background in translation, along with experience of teaching translation, interpreting, and/or translation studies modules, will be an advantage. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of core and elective modules in Spanish (including translation and interpreting), as well as modules in Translation Studies, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Salary Scale: €39,279 p.a. pro rata

Application Instructions

"A Teaching Assistant post in the University of Limerick operates as a training contract. The duration of the contract is limited to 10 months. However, it may be renewed for one further period, not exceeding 10 months. Applications will only be considered from individuals who have not already received two Teaching Assistant contracts"
