Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a three-year, full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate with the Discipline of Civil Engineering at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Met Éireann and is available from 1st August 2026 to 31st July 2029.
Join the University of Galway's Marine Modelling Group and contribute to cutting-edge research on the future of renewable energy in Ireland under a changing climate. This position is part of the RECAST project (Forecasting Renewable Energy Potential in Ireland's Changing Climate), which will deliver the most advanced national-scale assessments of future wind, solar and wave energy resources using high-resolution climate and wave modelling. Working with leading researchers and national stakeholders, you will play a central role in the development and application of a high-resolution wave modelling system (WAVEWATCH III) of Irish waters, the assessment of climate change impacts on future renewable energy availability and generation, and organisation of stakeholder engagement workshops. The Marine Modelling Group, led by Dr Stephen Nash, has a strong international reputation in coastal and ocean modelling, offshore energy and climate resilience. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake impactful research that supports Ireland's energy transition, informs policy, and contributes to climate-resilient energy system design.
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate salary scale €46,805 - €59,654 per annum, (subject to the project's funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts. The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project's funding limitations), where evidence of prior years' equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale. (Research Salary Scales - University of Galway)
Closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 (Irish Time) on 25th June 2026. It will not be possible to consider applications received after the closing date.
