Join Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's Internal Oracle Database (IOD) team, a Tier-0 team responsible for the data platform that powers virtually every OCI service. IOD provides fully managed database services for mission-critical OCI workloads, and dedicated cloud environments.
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer with strong DBA and database systems experience to help design, build, and operate highly scalable, reliable, and automated database services. You will work on large-scale distributed systems, ensuring the durability, availability, and performance of OCI foundational services

An IC4 Software Development Engineer within IOD, will focus on transforming operational knowledge into software, building automation and self-healing capabilities that reduce manual intervention, improve reliability, and enable the IOD platform to scale efficiently. By combining strong software engineering and database expertise, they would help build the next generation of IOD database platform services that support OCI's continued growth while improving developer productivity and operational excellence.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for:
- Design, develop, and operate large-scale database platform services that power mission-critical Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) workloads.
- Build highly available, scalable, and resilient distributed systems in order to manage databases across global cloud regions.
- Develop automation for database provisioning, lifecycle management, monitoring, patching, upgrades, backup, recovery, and fleet operations.
- Partner with database architects, SREs, and OCI service teams to deliver reliable data platforms that meet stringent availability, performance, and durability requirements.
- Drive improvements in service reliability, scalability, observability, security, and operational efficiency for Tier-0 cloud services.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning database internals, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale fleet operations.
- Design and implement software solutions that optimize database performance, capacity utilization, and operational excellence.
- Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering initiatives focused on the future of cloud-scale database platforms.
- Leverage strong database administration (DBA) expertise to influence software design, automation strategies, and operational best practices.
- Contribute to the continuous evolution of OCI's foundational data services that support core cloud offerings
- Eliminate manual operational tasks by building self-service workflows for provisioning, patching, upgrades, backup validation, failover testing, and decommissioning.
- Develop "automate-first" solutions that reduce operational toil
- Reduce operational burden, faster incident recovery, and improve service reliability.
- Build intelligent remediation systems that detect and automatically resolve common database and infrastructure issues.
