Supplier Quality Engineer

Brief Job Description:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that all supplied components and materials meet quality standards and specifications required for production. This role serves as the primary liaison between the plant and suppliers, focusing on quality assurance and problem resolution. The SQE works closely with internal teams such as Manufacturing, Engineering, and Corporate Supplier Quality to maintain supplier performance and drive corrective actions when necessary.
Responsibilities and Measurement Criteria with Time investment Needed on Each:
- Participate in Supplier process reviews, Quality audit, Control Plan development, process capability and gage studies, and other milestone events.
- Participate in initial and sustaining part qualification, including part approval activities as required by the level of criticality of the component.
- Participate in supplier qualification and selection activities, including taking the lead on supplier quality assessments.
- Develop, analyze, and report Quality Performance Metrics of actual supplier performance.
- Identify opportunities for supplier development and process improvement activities, while driving Corrective Actions & problem root cause analysis as necessary.
- Initiate, review and track Supplier Corrective Actions Requests until actions have been implemented and verified as effective.
- Resolving quality issues with the suppliers.
- Working with cross-functional teams to ensure that incoming materials meet the required specifications.
- Working with suppliers to develop quality improvement plans and ensuring their implementation.
- Improve production output as part of ongoing improvements/lean initiatives
- Any additional items assigned by the Quality Manager
Qualifications:
Required/ Minimum Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering or a related field of study or significant direct job experience in quality assurance or a combination of the education and experience.
- Knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (8D, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, Root Cause Analysis).
- Proficient with word processing, (relational) database, data analysis, spreadsheet, planning and desktop publishing programs and software.
- Knowledgeable and proficient with various data analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Experience conducting supplier process and system audits aligned with ISO 9001 requirements; certified Internal Auditor is an advantage.
- Must be skilled in interpersonal skills and communications (including presentations) to groups of various sizes and levels within the organization.
- Valid driver's license required; ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally to supplier locations as needed.
