Job Purpose
Job summary
We are seeking a stroke consultant, who would be dedicated and passionate in helping us to provide outstanding and exemplary care for stroke patients in our hospital and on-site rehabilitation beds.
The post-holder will work with eight other Consultant Geriatricians in providing a range of services for older people with complex needs, and so you will have a supportive and friendly team around you, providing plenty of scope for you to showcase your skills and to develop professionally. This post would be suitable for a consultant geriatrician with sub-specialty interest in stroke or a stroke physician.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in Stroke Medicine and are required to be on the Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine.

Key Responsibilities
Main duties of the job
The Medicine for Older Person's team comprises 8 WTE consultants with support from junior medical teams, providing a range of services for older people with complex needs as well as acute stroke and general internal medicine services. It is envisaged that this post will rotate between the acute stroke service, stroke consult service and post stroke rehabilitation service.
Stroke Service
An acute Stroke Service was established 15 years ago in the hospital and delivers on all aspects of acute and ambulatory care. There is a 24/7 on call stroke thrombolysis service in collaboration with neighboring hospitals (MMUH and Beaumont hospitals - the Connolly consultants are on a combined on-call rota) There is also on-site specialist stroke rehabilitation in the Silverbirch unit (24 beds). Successful applicants can rotate through this service for clinical experience only if they request.
A panel of eligible candidates may be formed from this campaign for future posts within the Department

The following qualifications shall apply to this appointment: -
Professional Qualifications
Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Rheumatology and General Medicine Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the speciality of medicine.
Age
Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
Health
A candidate for and any person holding the post must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the post and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
A candidate for and any person holding the post must be of good character.
