The Role

As an ICT Design Engineer you will be part of a global engineering team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects.

Our AWS ICT Design and Engineering Team is a new fast-growing and leading-edge engineering team that is rethinking the design for the critical communications pathways that connect the various pieces of hardware inside AWS' data centers. As we continue to grow, we are looking for team members that can help us innovate delivery of ICT components, support our speed to market, raise the bar, and have a desire for professional growth and continuous learning. As part of this team you will work directly with engineers and managers across the company to develop connectivity solutions for the physical layer. Work with the rest of the design team to provide pathway and cabling designs and specification for construction and operation and finally with industry suppliers and manufacturers to develop product requirements and recommend new technologies.

Key job responsibilities

Your task:

- Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic & copper plant designs and specifications.

- Review and approval of ICT pathway, cable and equipment submittals.

- Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.

- Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time.

- Travel 20+% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS' Data Centers.

- Having fun and offering a creative, out of the box solutions.

A day in the life

As an ICT Design Engineer, you'll work on designing scalable connectivity solutions for our data center infrastructure. Your day involves collaborating with architects, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and control engineers across AWS to develop pathway and cabling designs. You'll review technical submittals, coordinate with industry suppliers to evaluate new technologies, and travel to data center sites to review projects and work with onsite teams. You'll prioritize activities that support data center capacity and safety while working on both local and global initiatives, solving complex infrastructure challenges that directly impact our customers' ability to access cloud services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities

- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production

- CNIDP (Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional) and/ or BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) Certification

- Experience in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) design experience in Mission Critical Environments

- Experience with Fiber Optic components, Cabling, and Interconnect products, technologies, and standards

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Professional Engineer License

- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region

- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

- Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical equipment or design related to data center electrical and mechanical topology

- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)

- Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional
