The Purpose of the Role

The Student Counsellor's main responsibility is the provision of assessments, brief counselling and facilitation of groups and workshops. In addition to this, the post holder will be assigned a specific brief, such as: the development and delivery of the training, supervision, outreach and prevention or groups programmes. The assigned brief can change depending on the evolving needs of the service and with the changing needs of the student body.

As a senior Student Counsellor within the Student Counselling Services (SCS/the Service), they will also assist and deputise for the team Clinical Manager and assist the Senior Management Team in the development of the Service.

Context

The Student Counselling Services comprises Counselling, Student Learning Development (SLD) and Student 2 Student (S2S), all supported by a central administrative team. The Service delivers psychological therapy, social transition and academic skills services across the student body using a stepped care model. SCS contributes to the University's key strategic objectives such as student transition and retention, accessibility, diversity and internationalisation.

Within the counselling service, there are three counselling teams each managed by a team Clinical Manager and typically including a senior Student Counsellor and one or more Student Counsellors. Assistant psychologists, post graduate trainees and volunteers additionally form part of these teams.

Qualifications
• A clinical Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Psychotherapy - essential.
• Be registered/accredited with ICP/PSI - essential.
• Have a minimum of 5 years post qualifying experience as a psychologist or psychotherapist, excluding placement/trainee experience/qualification training experience - essential.
• Be registered with ICP/PSI as a clinical supervisor - desirable
